AhaBulb: Stuff Everyone Should Know · ahabulb.com/garbage-disposal
Should you run hot or cold water while using a garbage disposal?
Cold water. It keeps grease solid so the blades can chop it up.
- Cold water, as the manual directs ✔
- Hot water to melt grease
- Either temperature works the same
Why: Run cold water while grinding and for a few seconds afterward. Never pour fat, oil, or grease into the disposal or drain.
Huh, didn't know that: Disposals use impellers and a grind ring rather than sharp spinning blades.
Why did the garbage disposal complain? It had a lot on its plate.
